Here’s another ‘behind-the-scenes’ update for you. I received the covering material for the clamshell box that will house the Numbered edition of Misery. One of the things I love about making books is choosing the materials. This includes anything from the paper, to the book covering to the type and color of the foil used for stamping. And a whole lot of other things in between.
The materials are a big part of the book design, and the creative direction. Do colors match, do the fabric textures complement each other. How does the paper make you feel when you touch it. For me, it’s all very much an experience of the senses.
The material we settled on is really beautiful. The black is an Italian cloth with a wonderful texture, that will cover the box, and the red is the leather that will be used for the spine label of the box. These will be going off to the box maker next.
