Bound in black leather with onlays representing the three canticas—black for Inferno, brown for Purgatorio, purple for Paradiso. The design is tooled in candle soot, palladium leaf and gold leaf, with portions surface gilt. The top-edge is gilt, and the head and tail bands are hand-tied in brown, purple and gold silk to match the onlays. Pastedowns are handmade decorative papers in acrylic and gold leaf, and the natural deckle is preserved at the fore- and lower-edges. The initial capitals of each cantica are hand-painted and illuminated with raised gold leaf by Thomas Ingmire. The William Blake illustrations are printed giclée on Hahnemühle Bugra, with text set in Centaur. The enclosure features two rounded wooden spines covered in leather, with a pull-out tray holding the supplemental volume. The text pages are set in Centaur type. Volume I is printed letterpress on handmade Velké Losiny and Volume II is printed by offset lithography.
