Production Update: I Am Legend

November 23, 2019

Production of the Numbered and Lettered editions of I Am Legend by Richard Matheson are well under way. Last week we had a great time fine-tuning the gold stamping on the parchment for the Numbered edition. The results are just what we were looking for; the shade of gold is perfect and the parchment stamps beautifully. We expect this edition to be a gorgeous book, inside and out.

We do not see many books today that are bound using parchment, and working with it is not easy because of how rigid the skins are. They must be sprayed with water to soften them, and then molded into shape.

There was a sense of timelessness when we had an opportunity to see the parchment being prepared. Parchment derives its name from Pergamon, the city where it was perfected (via the Latin pergamenum and the French parchemin) in the 2nd century B.C. It was used extensively for writing as a substitute for papyrus, and became dominant as a book binding material in the 4th Century.

Our desire to bring ancient methods of book production into the modern age is truly satisfied in the work we are doing with this edition, and we have no doubt that you will be very pleased with the results.

There are a few copies available of this edition. Click the button below to order your’s before they are sold out. We will also soon be removing the payment plan option for this edition.

Looking forward to this one very much, just the other books. I am very interested to see this one in person because it just seems so unique.
