UPGRADED NUMBERED EDITION
We are delighted to share with you the upgraded and redesigned Numbered edition of I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.
Throughout the process of crafting our editions, we create prototypes of the book, primarily to identify quality issues so that we can make refinements. In most cases, the physical book meets our expectations. In this case, however, we felt that there were two key areas that could be vastly improved. In short, the book simply did not meet with our standards of quality and design.
The first area was that of the parchment spine. The initial batch of skins we procured proved to be very challenging to work with, and after several rounds of testing we were unhappy with the results. I had a clear picture in my mind about a parchment spine for this edition, so we continued to pursue this option and tested a second hand-selected batch and those worked perfectly! The result was exactly how I wanted this part of the edition to look. Not only did it stamp exceptionally well, but it hit the mark from an aesthetic standpoint.

The second element which I felt needed attention were the boards. The paper we had chosen to cover the book was a very beautiful, premium quality paper but for some reason, I felt it did not work when I held a physical prototype in my hands. It looked good to us when creating the digital mockups, but sometimes experiencing a book ‘in-person’ is quite different from seeing it on the screen. At this point the decision was made to redesign the boards, and in the process, upgrade the edition using a more costly marbled paper. The result, which you see above, works so much better.

Thanks for the update Paul. The way you continue to fine tune what is in effect a finished product just goes to show the level of detail you put into these books and the quality you want to deliver to your customers.
